Have you ever thought about how to drive through foggy roads? And how was the experience? That doesn't seem like a big concern.
Fog - one of the dangers for drivers
However, fog is a threat to those who hold the steering wheel when they unfortunately encounter it. In severe situations, fog can resemble a rough white wall, limiting the driver's visibility to at least 10m. Along with the darkness of night and dark roads, fog can strangely add to the driving experience, but if you're unlucky, the exact opposite can happen.
For some situations you may encounter, there are a few tips for driving through fog, which, if applied, experience has shown can make you less afraid and feel safer.
Be prepared for all driving conditions
What you can do is check your car before starting the journey, if your car is suitable for the road. Most importantly, check that all vehicle lighting systems are working properly. While driving, listen to the weather on local radio stations, especially where you are passing.
What do you have to do?
The first thing to do when your car encounters fog is to slow down. When visibility is limited, running at high speed is not a good option. Keeping the speedometer below 50km/h is often the driver's secret, this speed will give you plenty of time to operate the steering wheel. Of course, there are no regulations or laws that dictate how long it will take you to get through the fog. Therefore, keep the speed at a moderate level, according to your driving experience, it is up to you. Be sure to look at the speedometer when checking your speed, however, as fog tends to create a slow-motion effect.
The second thing you have to do is make sure your car's lighting system is bright enough. And by the way, let's check out the lower headlights, upper fog lights, rear fog lights, and even the warning lights. Turn on your warning lights because they provide better illumination than fog lights.
When you are driving at a moderate speed and all your vehicle lights are working, steer the vehicle to the right side of the road. That will help you avoid dangers. Maintaining a low speed allows you to avoid pedestrians, vehicles or roadside obstacles.
Maintain low speed for timely processing.
Humans have 5 senses. So, don't rely entirely on your eyesight while driving through fog. Turn off the music player, roll down the windows and listen to what you can't see. This is an effective method to help you judge whether there is another car and where it is running. Furthermore, you will not feel like you are driving the car in the dark through fog.
Having a car in front is a blessing when going through foggy roads, you can easily follow the car in front. But you cannot leave your fate in the hands of another driver...
If your car cannot continue the journey, do not panic, try to pull the car to the right side of the road, away from alleys if possible and stop.
